How to Prepare Your Skin for Henna or Jagua Appointment
Proper skin prep = a better stain! Whether you’re booking natural henna or jagua, follow these simple tips to get the best results.
A few days before henna application:
Avoid waxing within 4 days of your appointment as freshly waxed skin can be too sensitive and lead to uneven stains.
Gently exfoliate your hands and feet 2–3 days before to remove dead skin cells.
Any laser hair removal should be done at least 2 days before your session.
Plan your manicures/pedicures at least 1 day prior since creams or oils can block the stain.
On the day of henna application:
Shower and wash your hair before your appointment (you’ll need to keep the paste on for 6–9 hours).
Do not apply lotion, cream, oil, or gel. A clean, dry skin absorbs henna or jagua best.

-
Yes, shaving is okay — just do it at least a day before your session to avoid irritation.
-
Moisturising the night before is fine, but make sure your skin is clean and free of products on the day of your appointment.
-
Loose, comfortable clothing and easy to slide off shoes that gives access to the area being decorated is ideal to avoid smudging.
